The most collectible Burgundy you’ve probably never heard of

And we’ve got three bottles

Welcome! 👋

In the early days of Oeno, I’d lie awake at night dreaming of finding bottles so rare people would barely believe it.

As you know, I have quite an obsessive nature.

When it comes to good wine, anyway.

Now, I’ve got that feeling again.

After searching for this wine for more than ten years, I’ve finally found it.

In fact, it’s so rare it can’t even be listed on Wine Searcher’s “most expensive” list. And hardly ever, if ever, comes up for sale, making it nearly mythical in the world of fine wine.

I’m talking about the Henri Jayer 1982 Richebourg Grand Cru vintage.

Henri Jayer, or rather, the “Pope of Burgundy”, as he’s so often called, was a legend among vignerons.

While I like wine to be inclusive, when something this rare presents itself, I just can’t ignore it.

I don’t want you to, either.

When he was just 16, Henri took over his family's land during WWII. His marriage to a winemaker's daughter and oenology studies fuelled his passion for viticulture.

While other winemakers at the time were filtering their wine to make it look clearer, Henri knew that this could diminish its flavour.

Furthermore, all his grapes were 100% destemmed, which was unheard of in those days.

He never resorted to chemicals even when he could – he used only his hands and his horse.

While Domaine Romanée-Conti and Domaine Leroy command similar prices, their supplies are replenished with a new vintage each year.

With Henri Jayer wines, that’s not the case.

The world of wine lost Henri in September 2006, and, with his nephew producing under the name Emannuel Rouget since his passing, no bottle of wine since produced bears Henri’s name.

Hence why finding a Henri-labelled wine is so valuable.

It is said that once you’ve had a taste, you will never forget it. Henri only produced two or three barrels of Richebourg each year, so quantities were very limited and extremely hard to come by.

It’s safe to say the 1982 Richebourg vintage is iconic.

It’s renowned for its depth, complexity, and exceptional ageing potential, making it a prized possession for any serious wine collector.

And I’ve managed to get my hands on three bottles!

Currently, bottles of Henri Jayer’s Richebourg 1982 are priced at a minimum of £27,000 per bottle.

We are offering them at £25,888 per bottle.

This is a rare chance to acquire exceptional wines at a competitive price.

Given their scarcity and the rising demand, these bottles are expected to appreciate significantly in value, making them a sound addition to your collection.

Get in touch if you’d like to reserve yours.

We look forward to speaking with you soon.

As always, cheers!
